South Devon Pedigree Cattle

We produce South Devon bulls and heifers for sale as breeding stock. The aim of the herd has always been to build on the excellent natural qualities of the
South Devon (notably fast growth, large mature size, maternal traits with plenty of milk, docility, ability to convert grass, and
good beef conformation with marbling) to produce superior beef animals.

About The Grove Herd

The Grove Herd of Pedigree South Devons

The Grove Herd of Pedigree South Devons was founded on 16th March 1977 by Mr and Mrs W H D (Douglas) Scott at The Manor of Groves in Hertfordshire, and moved to Gloucestershire in 1988. It has become a highly respected and successful herd, achieving impressive statistics, awards and sale prices. Douglas Scott is a past president and past chairman of the South Devon Herd Book Society, and president of the World Association of South Devon Breeders 2002-2005.

We produce South Devon bulls and heifers for sale as breeding stock. The aim of the herd has always been to build on the excellent natural qualities of the South Devon (notably fast growth, large mature size, maternal traits with plenty of milk, docility, ability to convert grass, and good beef conformation with marbling) to produce superior beef animals. To this end performance is fully recorded and used for selection in the breeding programme. At the same time welfare is a priority - the herd is grass-fed and over-wintered indoors on mainly silage.

Keith has finally retired after more than 23 years as our stockman. He is not far away (living in a house he bought in Moreton), and may appear at SDHBS events from time to time. He has been replaced by our new man, Chris Richens, - watch this space!
